Boundless: Picture Books About Disabilities
Wednesday, September 11, 2024 - Sunday, December 22, 2024
Picture books offer opportunities for young audiences to build empathy and learn about life from new perspectives. In this reading room exhibition, over forty books for and about people with disabilities are on display to read and explore. These books, which feature a wide variety of engaging stories and innovative illustrations, are arranged into three thematic sections: Picturing Perspectives, Page-Turning Friendships, and Empowering Plots. The gallery also includes participatory questions, sensory and learning tools, and interactive art activities to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for young visitors and families.
This exhibition was originally organized by Shelley Isaacson for The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art.
Generous support for bilingual text was provided by Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All programs.
All works that appeared in this exhibition were loans to the Zimmerli and therefore do not appear on this website.
